Hello devART~!
I'm always having trouble drawing backgrounds,
like everything I draw looks half-assed no matter how much time I put into it.
I need a couple tips for good-looking backgrounds, like techniques and such.
Thanks so much if you can help me out! ;; <3

for me it's als hard to draw... sometimes it helps me to watch some pictures... for example if I wanna draw a city a look for many differents pictures and try to mix them up in something that I want...

But if u wanna do something completely different well, try to think about what could make ur drawing looks better... even simple backgrounds can make a simple drawing (character) look amazing :D

Good Luck!
I know it's hard to do! :)

ugh i suck at backgrounds too.
what i usually do is simple designs (ex a plaid background, circles, etc) , sometimes from brushes and sometimes using a filter. simple designs work well if you don't want your character/focal point to stand out

umm i guess it depends on what kind of backgrounds you want to do, but there are lots of tutorials here on DA for all kinds of things! All kinds of environments, buildings, whatever! Here's one about grass and waterfalls~[link]

Making the thing really big and zooming in to add in tons of small detail xD Thats for super long works, My best tip would be just too experiment with different programs and different brushes until you get something you like. It's really hard to teach anyone else your techniques without actually being there showing them first hand so I can't really help much.

Experimentation is fun, You could also hire someone else as a part timer, and charge people a small bit extra for backgrounds and give that bonus to the part timer and have them draw backgrounds for you. Like a joint shop.
